Is it worthwhile doing an MBA in UPES Dehradun?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 3rd, 2023

Every B-school has its unique strengths and so does UPES Dehradun which is famous for its domain-specific MBA. If you are willing to pursue an MBA in oil and gas, power management, or energy trading, choosing UPES Dehradun will be the right decision. It offers a plethora of opportunities in these domains and the ROI is also great. There are some industry-specific courses too but their placements are just average.

The best part about UPES is the diversity of the crowd. You will get the chance to interact with people from various backgrounds such as law, management, engineering, and design thus enhancing the learning experience manifolds.

Ultimately, I will suggest you go for UPES Dehradun only if you are planning to pursue a domain-specific MBA, else you can go for better B Schools.

What happened on your first day at IIT?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 26th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

I am an alumnus of IIT Ropar. I reached my classroom 15 minutes early, filled with enthusiasm for learning from some of the best professors in India.

All my enthusiasm and spirit died when I noticed how the professor was least interested in us. He simply neglected our presence, plugged his pen drive into his laptop, and started reading the presentation. I had hoped for a more interactive and passionate environment. This bitter experience was not limited to just one teacher, all the other professors were equally disinterested in interacting with their students and teaching them something new.

Not just IIT Ropar, this is the story of every college and every IIT. With time, the passion for engineering starts to die and the students learn to somehow survive each semester. Some students feel that their coaching teachers were far more enthusiastic than their professors.

This was my bitter experience during my first day at IIT which I decided to share with you.

What is an IIM interview like? If you have had an IIM interview, what is your profile, i.e. academic record, CAT percentile, etc.?

DS
Dev Shukla Posted On : December 12th, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2017)

There are lots of students who appear for IIM interview and clear it with full confidence and potential. Here is one such example of a student who got admitted to IIM Ahmedabad. Below is her profile for your reference.

Percentage in Xth: 94.6%

Percentage in XIIth: 80.8 %

Percentage in Graduation (Delhi College of Engineering, B.Tech): 73.52 %

CAT Percentile: 99.90

Work Experience: Nil

Students also have to give Academic Writing Text on any given subject.

The interview goes for around 15 to 20 minutes and there are generally 2 interviewers to take your interview. Firstly, they ask you about yourself and try to know about your visions, perceptions, experience, and so on. They mainly ask you general questions related to your academics as well as your surrounding to analyze your presence of mind and knowledge regarding any specific subject.

They are interested to know about your capabilities, strengths, weaknesses, and where your opinions stand. Students are asked about the most recent hotly debated topics or issues to understand their grip over current affairs.

IIMs seek out positive people who are eager to learn and have a basic understanding of any situation. It is not necessary to be a master of everything, superb academics and extracurriculars in order to succeed, though grades are important. You simply need to demonstrate your ability to think to the interviewer.

Does IGNOU have any importance? Is IGNOU good?

SS
Shikha Sehrawat Posted On : October 12th, 2022
Studied at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

It is advised that you do not consider whether the IGNOU certificate is valuable in terms of getting a job. However, the acquired knowledge and skills will be precious to you. Time management, submitting assignments on time, and sitting for exams at the end are all essential requirements.

The institute's name serves only as an icebreaker at first; once hired, there is no turning back. Put that knowledge to use at work.

Most importantly, it is a GOVERNMENT OF INDIA recognized certificate that is accepted almost everywhere in the world.

So, if you want to work while studying or can't afford a regular course, IGNOU is far superior to good.

Why do students leave BHU?

AS
Amita Santra Posted On : November 15th, 2022
Economics from Banaras Hindu University (Graduated 2018)

Although BHU has the best faculty and management, many students tend to leave BHU after a few days. They feel isolated and homesick. Also, the teachers have a lot of political influence. The administration does not let you take a stand for yourself. A lot of inter students riots take place here.

Also, BHU has a sustaining hierarchy and preferential treatment that seeps down to the education part as well. Ex-students become professors without external exposure. So they bring much lesser value in terms of ethics, fair marking, and admission system.

I think these are some minor reasons why students keep leaving BHU after admission.

What are some bitter truths about life at IIT/BITS Pilani?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : June 26th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Here are a few bitter truths about life at BITS Pilani and IITs in general that many are not known to

  • The faculty no doubt is one of the best but they are more qualified in research work than in teaching.
  • The girl-to-boy ratio at IITs and BITS Pilani is deteriorating rapidly.
  • IIT students stay awake most part of the night and sleep early morning around 5 thus disturbing their sleep cycle tremendously.
  • The average IQ of IIT students is higher than people of the rest of the world yet the output is not particularly high
  • The attendance policy is a major hurdle here and even students with decent marks get detained.
  • The food served in the mess is hardly edible
  • The highest package rarely reaches the CPA mark and if it does, it's usually an international package where the in-hand salary is much less.

Despite it all, IITs and BITS have excellent placement scenarios because the recruiting companies are well aware that these students will commit to work more than their capacity and thus prefer IITians over other people.

How was your IIM Ahmedabad interview?

DM
Drishanu Mitra Posted On : February 22nd, 2022
studies at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

In 2021, one of my friends attended the IIM Ahmedabad interview. IIM A was the only IIM to conduct in-center interviews last year. Students were required to go to the center give AWT, and attend their interview through video conference.

After the identity verification, students were asked to wait in a room for AWT. When the AWT round was over, they were called for an interview. My friend was 3rd in her panel.

  • They asked a few questions regarding her background and past academics, first.
  • After the introduction was done, they asked why she wanted to do an MBA.
  • There were few other questions regarding politics and current events.
  • She was also asked whether she got any placement offers or not.

Her interview went well and she was able to convert the call.
