PM Narendra Modi recently visited Paris and held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on an array of issues such as tackling irregular migration and increasing two-way movement of professionals, skilled workers and students.
According to the joint statement issued after the discussion, India and France also pledged to follow through with the implementation of the Partnership Agreement on Migration and Mobility, which entered into force on October 1, 2021.

French Government also announced their intention to increase the number of Indian students to around 20,000 by 2025 to study in the country. This will enable the Macron Government to create more opportunities for start-ups and new businesses.
The governments of the two countries also agreed to enable temporary circular migration based on mobility and the need for return of skilled workers to the home country. Bilateral issues, regional and global development and matters of mutual interest were also discussed by Prime Minister Modi and President Macron.

In 2019, around 10,000 Indian students were studying in France. According to the information provided on the website of the french embassy in New Delhi, Indian students received special support from French Government during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
A month back, Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs also held talks on various issues of mutual interests with Indian External Affairs Minister Mr S Jaishankar. Chief items covered during the meeting include education, global warming and climate change, food security, and conflict in Ukraine.
