Course Curriculum Overview:

I love doing coding and logical thinking. I love to solve questions which keeps our brain to think out of box. So this is the reason I chose computer science department. The curriculum prepares us well by conducting labs and making us think critically and also we do projects, which helps us to have real world experience. It think we also have some unnecessary courses here, which must be changed with the time and the evolution of technology. The frequency of exams are , 2 quizes and 1 endsem per semister and we may have some tutorials (mini-tests) based on professors choices.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the course curriculum to be 8 out of 10. The relevance and comprehensiveness is quite good but the way it is taught and evaluation processes are not so good. Few professors give very easy grading whereas few professors give very low grades even after scoring good and doing alot of hardwork (sometimes because of relative grading). Learning skills to be able to be prepared for real life experiences varies widely from branch to branch like people from CSE get to learn alot of expertise and skills to solve real life problems but for other branches it is not so good because often people don't seem to be intrested in their course and try going for non core (software) placements.

I choose CSE because I was interested in Artificial intelligence. Rather than choosing the AI department in some colleges, I choose CSE at IIT Madras because it covers all aspects of computer science. The faculty-student ratio is good you would have a prof for every 60 students in a class. The teachers are highly qualified but there are some stupid teachers with stupid grading. You can easily pass the exam even if you study the night before.

Ques. What should I choose between IIT-Kanpur CSE and IIT Madras CSE?

● Top Answer By Aditi Roy on 17 Jul 23

The best way is to break down various components and analyze each parameter individually.  Placements IIT Madras's average package in 2023 stood at INR 24.4 LPA while IIT Kanpur CSE highest package stood at 1.02 CPA. Ranking IIT Kanpur was ranked 264th by the QS World University Rankings 2023 and #4 by NIRF for the year 2023 in the Engineering category whereas IIT Madras is ranked #1 by NIRF. Campus IIT Madras has a 630 acres campus with many sports facilities like a gym, badminton courts, a swimming pool, and a cricket ground to name a few. The labs, library, and overall infrastructure are top-notch. IIT Kanpur is one of the biggest IIT campuses spread across 1000 acres. It has a dynamic campus life with many fests and activities. The library is huge and there is a club for everything. Ques. Which is better: Mech in IIT Madras or CSE in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Shankar Pandey on 28 Mar 23

The choice of the branch, as well as the Institute, depends on a lot of factors like your personal preferences and the other options you have. It’s difficult to say which is better between the Mechanical Engineering program at IIT Madras and CSE at NIT Trichy, as both are highly reputable institutions with strong engineering programs. Both offer excellent curricula, experienced faculty, and ample opportunities for research and extracurricular activities.  Joining NIT Trichy for CSE is a good choice if You are more interested in computer science and software development If you are only after the CS roles and placements. The placements of this branch are pretty good at NIT Trichy with the average package at INR 17-24 LPA and placement rate at 98-100%. If you want to pursue higher studies in MS Joining IIT Madras for Mechanical Engineering is a good choice if You are looking for an amazing campus life and the IIT tag You are open to non-core jobs because core Mechanical jobs are average.  If you want to start a career in CS by learning to code or taking minor courses in CS Some other options to consider are CSE at IIIT Hyderabad or new IITs ECE at IIT Guwahati  EE at IIT Hyderabad  All these have average packages above 20 LPA and are excellent options. The preference order for branches on the basis of job prospects and the current demands in the market is as follows CSE > M&C > ECE > EE All these branches are open to software profiles whereas other branches usually offer non-core profiles even Mechanical. Ultimately, it's important to research both programs and consider your own interests and goals before making a decision....Read more

Ques. Which is better to opt, aerospace engineering in IIT Madras or CSE in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Aditi Goswami on 30 Mar 23

Anyone who has the option of choosing IIT Madras must without further thinking grab the opportunity. IIT Madras is Ranked the No.1 Engineering college for the past few subsequent years. Joining IIT Madras will let you change your branch based on your CGPA IIT Madras has excellent culture and peer groups and fairs much better than NIT Trichy in this aspect. The level of competition at IIT Madras is higher and thus you will grow continuously unlike NIT where you will already be among the toppers The plethora of opportunities and exposure at IIT Madras is incomparable to that at NIT Trichy. My friend was a graduate student of Automotive Engineering (Engineering Design) from IIT Madras but ended up with a career in Data Science and Algorithmic Trading. Thus every engineer irrespective of his branch should be proficient in at least one programming language. Choose your college wisely as it’s responsible for shaping and steering your career....Read more

Ques. Which should one choose for studying, IITM or IIIT Hyderabad for CSE?

● Top Answer By Divya Saraf on 01 Aug 23

One of my friends has completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s in CS from IIIT Hyderabad and still suggested his younger brother go for IIT Madras.  He feels that IIIT Hyderabad certainly gives you an edge in getting placed initially but it restricts your prospects to a large extent. IIT Madras on the other hand gives a wider perspective and scope. Students get to learn specifics in their sub-field. The lab facilities offered at both institutes are equally good. However, you can join as an intern/RA later in any of these institutes. So this affects the research edge in specific areas. IIT Madras seems to have better research options mainly because of its huge size. Outside life shouldn’t be a problem in either institute because both are excellently located and offer a great urban life. So look at the vegged picture and choose wisely!...Read more

Ques. Which is better among NIT Warangal CSE and IIT Madras civil?

● Top Answer By Adiya Bondhopaday on 31 Mar 23

It’s a bit difficult to draw comparisons between NIT Warangal CSE program and CivIl Engineering program at IIT Madras, as they are different programs offered at different institutions. Both NIT Warangal and IIT Madras are highly respected institutions in their respective fields, and both offer excellent educational opportunities.  It’s a brainer that CSE is a much more preferred branch than civil engineering. But before choosing any branch you need to first determine your inclinations whether you want to go for IES, PWD job, a government sector job, or want to enter the corporate world. For most of these prospects, Civil is a better choice but for the corporate sector, CSE is better. Moreover, CSE has better packages with the average package of BTech this year at INR 41.72 LPA One gets to experience decent city life in contrast to Civil Engineering jobs Once you have gained experience in CSE, you will only climb the ladder higher in terms of pay and roles. CSE has a wide scope of opportunities outside India which is lacking in the part of Civil. Considering the fast-paced technological development, CSE has more demand than Civil I am not saying Civil has no opportunities, it’s just that CSE is the perfect choice for someone interested in programming and wants to enter the corporate sector. Ultimately, the decision of which program is "better" for you will depend on your personal interests and career goals. It's important to research and thinks about the curriculum, campus culture, research opportunities, and career prospects offered by each program before making a decision....Read more

Ques. Which is best, IIT Madras or IIIT Hyderabad for CSE in terms of placement?

● Top Answer By Shruti Agarwal on 30 Mar 23

Both IIT Madras and IIIT Hyderabad are considered prestigious especially when it comes to CS as both offer excellent education and opportunities in the same. Some pointers that might help you decide are The coursework for CS at most IITs focuses more on semester exams than exams which are not justified for the CS branch which requires a lot of assignments and a research-oriented approach. IIT Madras will just give you an IIT tag that might help you in the future. I think IIIT Hyderabad has a much better curriculum for CSE that combines both theoretical knowledge and practical implementation. The students at IIIT Hyderabad can be seen building software or implementing research papers as part of the project. Additionally, they are busy completing assignments that provide a practical approach to their knowledge. These projects and assignments are very crucial for a CS student and by the end of the program, you will have many projects and papers up your sleeve to add to your resume. As far as placements are concerned, both institutes get a fair share of companies offering good packages....Read more

Ques. What should be my CGPA in 1st year to change my course to CSE in IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Arati Sinha on 27 Jul 22

For CSE, you will need a CGPA of above 9. Naturally, the required CGPA varies each year, depending on competition, seat availability, etc. CSE is the most sought-after, so the CGPA requirement usually stays high. There are also other additional rules regarding branch changes. IIT Madras allows a maximum change of 10% in both branches. ...Read more

Ques. Is it better to do chemical engineering at the IIT Madras or computer engineering at IIT Indore?

● Top Answer By Ronit Sharma on 31 Mar 23

Both the programs, Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras and Computer Engineering at IIT Indore offers excellent courses and opportunities. However, the choice of the program is more of a personal decision as it depends on career goals, personal interests, and other criteria. It's not a hidden fact that Computer Engineering has a wider scope in almost all sectors in comparison to Chemical engineering. So obviously it is a safe option, but what if you take a specific branch just for placements and then regret it later?  If you take Chemical you can also change your branch to Computer later but it won't be possible Vive Versa. You must decide after considering all factors and most importantly your interests. Realize whose interests align with you the most. Getting into research work at UG level will only be beneficial for you. Take a visit to both the institutes or consult some seniors to find out which one offers better infrastructure, campus life and other facilities.  Personally speaking, I’ve had an excellent experience at the Electrical department of IIT Madras.
