What is the reality behind the 1.5 crore package grabbed by IIT Roorkee student?

I am the right person to answer this question as my sister was a batchmate of the student who grabbed a 1.5 crore package offered by Microsoft Redmond. This package was offered to CSE and ECE students. Microsoft was recruiting based on 2 profiles: Microsoft (Software) India and Microsoft Redmond USA For Microsoft India, CTC offered was 39 Lakhs and the in-hand salary was 1 lakh per month which is similar to other IT companies. For Microsoft Redmond, the CTC was 1.5 crore while the in hand was around 45 Lakhs. Keeping in mind the PPP of USA vs India, the approximate value is 15 LPA. Do you think this is an extraordinary package, considering all the factors I have mentioned? Many companies visiting the campus even offer packages ranging between 20-25 LPA. In fact, an Indian company AppDynamics had offered a package of Rs.45 lakhs with 30 lakhs in hand. Many such offers by Indian companies are better than US companies. It’s just that the international offers are extremely hyped and not many go into details of the monetary value.

How was your first day at IIT Roorkee?

Your first day at IIT Roorkee will certainly hold a special place in your heart. The first impression is definitely the last impression and so is the first impression of IIT Roorkee. The following answer is based on the experience of a friend. As she entered, she was thrilled by the beauty of the campus and the infrastructure. She entered the Convocation Hall and got herself registered after a tiresome process. She was then handed a paper ID card. Next, she was escorted to her assigned hostel which to her dismay was an old and eerie building. Her roommate was in the branch as her and soon she unpacked her belongings and set up her room. By evening, she had interacted with some regarding the Orientation Program. The next few days were spent in a frenzy with the alarm clock waking her up early in the morning. Students were given a tour of the campus and were also asked to choose their proficiency amongst NCC, NSS & NSO. There was also a test of English where the vocabulary was to be evaluated. The students were enlightened in basic policies such as curfew timings and no ragging culture. Students were also given a white-colored T-shirt with IITR’s logo and were asked to run a marathon at 6 am in the morning. The food served at the mess was pathetic. Overall, the first day at IIT Roorkee is full of surprises and learning new things!

What are must-do things that a person should participate in while pursuing their degree at IIT Roorkee?

There are many things you can do to make your stay at IIT Roorkee productive some of which have been listed below Attempt a research project to inculcate out-of-the-box thinking that is not just limited to the four walls of the classroom. Try to explore everything and gain interest in some technical fields. This will help you grow as a person. Look for an entrepreneurship project ongoing within the campus and you will get to learn amazing things. Socialize well with the faculty and develop good relations with them. This will help you understand whatever they teach with less difficulty. Become well versed in technical communication as it might help you climb the corporate ladder eventually. Go for spontaneous trips and experience new things with your friends that will make your college life interesting and DTU. Lastly, devour the beauty of the campus by taking long walks with your friends!

What are the conditions to change a branch in IIT Roorkee?

IT Roorkee allows students to change their branch of study under certain conditions. Whichever branch you belong to, you should be among the toppers. Very limited candidates actually get to change their branch because the Strength of a class shouldn't increase by 5% of the actual number of seats. Let’s understand this with the help of an example of 2 branches. CSE: For instance, if the strength of the CS batch is 80 then only 4 students are eligible for branch change into it. Only 2 out of these 4 are available for General Category students. So the competition is tough as you will be competing with so many students just for 2 seats. Meta: If the batch size of this branch is 120, and is the least preferred branch. So being a topper from GT, GPT, IMSC, BT, PP, PS, etc. you will face less competition and more seats will be available as many Meta students will have their branches changed to other better branches.

Some helpful tips for first-year students at IIT Roorkee are Make your friends wisely after judging people enough as they are an important part of your college life Don’t take the 1st-year lightly. Work the best you can and explore everything to find your passion. Join at least 2 clubs to ensure maximum exposure. Pay attention to the advice of only 4th year students. Develop good relations with everybody in general as all your batchmates are going to be successful people one day and you need to have strong connections. Don’t stay holed up in your room, go and explore the world outside after classes. You can go to sports, library research labs, etc. Try not to spend your evening inside your room. Gain self-confidence and manage your own matters well whether it is going to the bank, canteen, mess, or even to a professor. It’s okay to study at the last minute provided that you were regular to classes and had maintained notes and reviewed them regularly. A good CGPA of around 8 will fetch you good opportunities during placements. Take care of your physical as well as mental health because health is wealth, especially for a student. Don’t adopt bad habits that might hinder your learning process. Lastly, stay away from negative people and negativity in general. Don’t let anyone crush your confidence level. All these will help you grow as a person and focus on much more than just academics.

Should I leave IIT Roorkee electrical engineering for SCRA?

One of my friends completed his Dual Degree program in CSE from IIT Roorkee last year. she was in a similar dilemma. The SCRA opportunity seemed lucrative to his father and relatives but he was against leaving IIT Roorkee. He got the results in the first year at IIT Roorkee and she was due to join in the summer vacations. Giving up on the continued pressure, he decided to join SCRA. He couldn’t stay for more than 2 months and eventually resigned. He shared the various perks he enjoyed as an SCA (Special Class Apprentice) with a high stipend, hostel facilities, and decent food. Additionally, he got a B.E. from BIT Mesra and you are given enough time to prepare for Civil Services. By the end of college, you are appointed as an Assistant Mechanical Engineer, a very coveted job. Although he enjoyed his life in Jabalpur, his inclination toward programming always reminded him to go back, which eventually he did. So we can say that both opportunities are good except that one needs to identify his area of interest.

How easy is it to change branch in IIT Roorkee?

Eligibilty of the course:- Nil I have given Jee Advanced for the Admission in the college. I Availed reservation benefits as a OBC-NCL which gives around 27% reservation according to the government standard. The frequency of the exam is one-time each year held in may. The areas of improvement in the admission process can be based on the particular a student want to opt for the admission. Paper can set around that branch so that it can help to clear the basics and more students want to pursue research either of everyone choosing technical background either is from Circuital branch or any different branch.

I choose this course because i have very strong foundation on my concepts since 11th class in chemistry so i choose to opt the chemical engineering with polymer as a minor. The curriculum prepares you for real-world applications and for the pursuing of research field as well. The areas for improvement in the course curriculum can be more of real-world application rather than doing experiments which are used to be best in 2000-2005 or more older we can try to encourage more students to pursue that particular field which they opt to choose and can pursue the reasearch in that area. The frequency and timing of exams are four times per year which include two mid term exam and two end term exam.

College was allotted on the basis of our JEE rank according to my rank i took part in the counselling process and after the 7 rounds i got the chemical engineering branch at iit roorkee after that we have to submit the important documents due to corona the whole process was online. documents like 12th 10th score card and jee rank and score. The bad part is fee sbmission the server was so busy and many students faced the payment stuck issue.

Curriculm was okay. in our first semester we have the common subjects to other branches and the courses were introductory and easy. After the first year the courses became more and more specific and tough. In the last semester we have to design a btech project. Teaching methodology was nice. Professers know their niches and subjects but they taught us using slides that was the bad part. Weekly assigmnet and tutorial classes is held regularly.

After Counselling of josaa we got our college and branch according to our all India rank, Admission process was online we have assigned college mail id and all related processes is shared on college mail id, since it was online we just had to upload all related document mention on college website on time,and when we go to college then we have to submit our document file (it may be different for other years because at our time it was lockdown due to covid)

everyone knows it is according to your rank and everyone want CS but according to my it was best for me and i have some interest in chemical so i opted for this,the course curriculum is nice but we have to maintain atleast 75% attendance to appear for exams, there is two exam midterm and endterm in each semester,there is total 8 semester and there is credit system for courses, means each course is assigned with some credit point like 2,3,4,or 5. to complete your btech you have to earn around 170-180 credits. there is relative grading system and 10 point cgpa system. exam difficulty is not matter that much since it is relative system so you just need prepare 1 week before exam to get 7-8 sgpa in a subject

The cutoff for the B.Tech CSE general category was 413 in IIT-JEE Advanced. The admission process required us to submit the required documents like our jee adv marksheet, anti-ragging affidavits, and medical certificates.

The curriculum includes cse relevant courses like basic programming course, design and analysis of algorithms, microprocessors, operating systems etc. It also includes some courses like psychology, economics etc which are fine. But it also includes completely irrelevant courses like energy engineering and thermodynamics. etc. They keep tutorials aside from classes for assignment submission and doubt discussion with teaching assistants.

Technical clubs, the recruitment is test based process thus one who have prior knowledge gets admitted not the one who have interest. They need to learn on their own and then apply next year.
Music section, they also don't teach but recruit to those who know to play.

IITs are the most prestigious college in India. You get admission to IITs through entrance examination which include JEE mains and then JEE advanced (if qualified Mains). All the students who passed 12th are eligible for JEE. You can find the application form in the NTA website. Application fees is around INR600 for general candidates in JEE Mains. There are certain reservation benefits too. Once you qualify JEE Mains you can apply for Advanced. JEE mains can be given twice a year. It is held in the month of January and April. You get only one opportunity for Advanced in the month of May. Cut-off for Mains can somewhere around 90percentile. It keeps changing depending on the difficulty of the paper. For advanced there is both individual cutoff and overall cut-off, which again changes every year. But, 11marks can be considered for the individual cutoff. JEE advanced is considered one of the most difficult exams held in India. There is two papers organised for advanced each of 180.

Course curriculum are the best when it comes to courses in IIT. Most of the time you may not get courses of your choice in your choice of IIT, which is due to your rank, a deciding factor in seat allocation. Although I am quite impressed with the curriculum of any course. There is always opportunity for both core and non core jobs.

The entrance exam I appeared is jee advanced.it is the India's most toughest exam in India.I have qualified in that exam and I scored the marks 178 and my all India rank is 3145 and my obc is 301 rank.and there is councelling process after the exam I have make the colleges list by my ranks and my likes,after the councelling i got seat in iitroorkee ece in obc category

By qualifying IIT jee exam,the exam is completely based on maths,physics, chemistry.The ece branch is the most tougher branch.and the teachers in the IIT are very well qualified,and done their PhD in foreign in other countries and have a lot of experience.

here are some problem with rules like 75% rule of attendance which is not good though for college students
some faculty are not good towards it give grade to his courses and i don't like PIC cell give chance to company who provide less than 10 LPA in our college

there are many step from JEE MAINS/ADVANCED to get registered in the college first step to got qualified in jee mains and then jee advanced. There is options for courses with bases of college rank first you can find the expected rank vs college and its branch at many website like collegedunia, jossa, etc., for applying for jee mains you can fill the form on website like sarkari result,etc. same for jee advanced after clearing the cutt-off you have to choose college at jossa counselling and submit your branch choices with colleges and after that you get a branch in college you choose in your coounselling then you have to come that college for admission process with you all certificates they mentioned in thier particular process. this is right for me as a students i am okay with that exams jee mains then jee advanced.

Overall Life at IIT Roorkee

The vibe around and inside the college is amazing . I like the competition around.
The clubs are life of IIT ROorkee with having all types of interest in it.

First we have to give jee mains and qualify for jee advanced. If we get a desirable rank, we can apply for JOSSAA councelling for IIT and NIT . The cutoff criteria are there for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. The admission process was quite lengthy and made us a lot of nervous for a feww weeks. Alos, a slight mistake in making the choice for colleges can put us in undesirable college and/or branch. The number of documents required are too many.

The corriculum is old schooled. Basically the couse till our year does not include many modern technical cources. The bathch lower than ours have new education policy thus better cources for the current situation.

Can i get seat in IIT Roorkee if I have a score of 83.3 in jee main B. Arch paper

The cut-off for B.Arch at IIT-Roorkee last year was 16000+ which corresponds to 87%ile at least for Open category and thus keeping that in mind, it would be difficult to get into B.Arch.
