Some of the areas of the campus are pretty well-maintained. You will love taking casual strolls through the campus.You will get to meet talented peers on campus and learn from them.XLRI doesnt impose any kind of lifestyle on students. If you want to earn extra credits and participate in case competitions, you will get many such chances. If you want to relax and hang out with friends, you are free to do that.

Is it true that XLRI does not consider past academics for admission?

Past Academics are not just mere parameters for admission but they evaluate your consistency in performing well across various academic stages. This signifies your flexibility to adapt and maintain a consistent result. Thus a well-maintained and stable academic record ensures your competency and is given more importance than inconsistency in your academic profile. Most B-School consider past academic records to ensure the student’s ability to give consistently good results. XLRI too is one such institute, the only difference being that initial shortlisting is not done on that basis. This enables candidates with a valid reason for average past academics to justify their profile. In fact, their justification can even convince the panelists to consider them over other candidates with better past academic records. The reason I am so confident about this is that my sister told me her batchmates comprised both; students with excellent past academic records and students with below-average academic records. These students managed to seek admission by performing excellently in the post-written process. So, XLRI does consider past academics but not for initial shortlisting and the overall weightage given to academics is comparatively less than other B schools.

Do students from IIM/FMS/JBIMS/SPJIMR/IIFT/XLRI bunk classes like engineering students?

At IIM/FMS/JBIMS/SPJIMR/IIFT/XLRI, attendance is seen as a crucial aspect of the learning experience. Every effort must be made to be present in class and to participate actively in the discussions. In fact, class participation is considered to be such an important factor in determining grades that a significant portion of the total course weightage is allocated to it. This system is in place to encourage students to be engaged in the learning process and to ensure that they are taking full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. On the other hand, at IIT Kanpur, there is a more relaxed approach to attendance. While it is still advisable to attend classes and to be present for lectures, there is no strict requirement in place. This gives students more flexibility and allows them to choose when they want to attend classes based on their personal schedules or other commitments. It also means that engineering students are not penalized if they miss a class or two, as long as they are able to make up for it by participating in other ways, such as completing assignments or preparing for exams. Overall, both B-schools and Engineering colleges have different approaches to attendance and class participation. While IIM Ahmedabad places a strong emphasis on being present in class and participating actively, IIT Kanpur takes a more relaxed approach. Yes, there are many people who converted IIM, XLRI, FMS calls, even with a poor academic record. I personally know someone who scored less than 50 percentile in engineering yet got accepted at XLRI. He performed well in MBA and now works as a senior HR at a major eCommerce company. Academic record isn’t the only thing that these institute takes into consideration while selecting students. Your entrance examination score, performance in GD-PI, extracurricular achievements, etc. are equally important.

MBA admission in Indian B Schools is a fairly weird process in comparison to that of foreign B Schools. In India, the admission process requires a candidate to have some work experience and in certain B-schools, it even carries a certain weightage. But during Final Placements, this scenario changes entirely as the recruiters prefer freshers over experienced candidates. The major reasons for this contrast are: The recruiters offering Marketing roles are on the lookout for candidates who can initially go through a sales job for a few years. They believe that the route to Marketing is through sales only. Now Sales requires a lot of traveling that too to rural areas. The recruiters know that these tough job conditions cannot be undertaken by Experienced professionals and thus prefer freshers who they can mold easily. The companies offering Finance roles know that the candidates with prior work experience won’t be working for the long hours they require them to. So they prefer freshers who can work long hours without complaining. Recruiters are looking for candidates with work experience of not more than 11-12 months. Honestly, this strategy is illogical as a person with more work experience is bound to excel much better than a fresher, and restricting him from getting a job just because they cannot be exploited to the fullest extent is a bit cruel. The scenario is pretty much the opposite in foreign countries that prefer MBA candidates with work experience only. This is because in India MBA is considered a way to become more employable or earn a fatter cheque. Whereas in the West, it is a means to upgrade your career and take it to new heights. The entire concept of MBA is at fault in India thereby this illogical strategy. In my opinion, MBA candidates should have a work experience of at least 1 year, only then they can harness the MBA program to the fullest and not approach it just as a source of placements.

I cleared XLRI hr cutoff and have 94.242 percentile. What are the further steps and my chances of conversion?

Last year my brother tried for conversion, so I think sharing his experience might give you a clear idea. You must prepare well for general questions such as why MBA, why HR, your strengths and weaknesses. GD-PI rounds at XLRI would send a set of questions to the shortlisted candidates. These must be answered carefully because the interview may be based solely on these questions. Also, if you answer them correctly, you have a good chance of presenting yourself to the interviewer in a favorable light. The GD process would be based on very conventional topics. If you have 2+ years of experience, your interview will be based on it. Prepare thoroughly, not only for the technical aspects of your job but also for the functional aspects. Prepare 2–3 of your favorite or most important engineering subjects if you are an engineer (the same goes for other disciplines as well). Keep up with current events and, most importantly, prepare your views on them. Once the interview shortlists is released, the shortlisted candidates usually form a WhatsApp group to prepare for the GD-PI. Find similar groups on the education network and join them if you get a call. The Chances of Conversion are possible if you get a call. A good XAT score certainly helps, but before, people have simply cleared the XAT cut-off and made it to the institute. Now you have to stand out among others.

Life at XLRI

Life at XLRI combines classroom lectures, study sessions, management fests, and competitive sports meets. XLRI offers a beautiful campus, situated beside the Swarnrekha River. The XLRI campus has a new hostel for first-year students, an old hostel for second-year students, and a GMP building of 4 blocks for GMP students and other certificate and Ph.D. students. There are also accommodation facilities for the faculty members. There are 2 academic buildings, one old and one new. There is an international building and a management building, and a huge library.

XLRI Campus

The hostels are co-ed and have single-occupancy rooms. The campus is wifi enabled and high-speed internet can be accessed from any corner of the campus. The classes at XLRI usually start at 9 am, with each session of 1.5 hrs. The classes usually end at 6 pm, but some professors take extra classes even after dinner.

XLRI campus offers multiple options to spend leisure time. The campus is huge enough to take a walk. There are gyms in both the new and the old hostels. XL dhaba is one of the meeting points for the students where students discuss various topics with a cup of coffee. There are all sorts of sports facilities available like a basketball court, a football ground, a badminton court, etc. Also, there are always some or the other activity going around the campus to keep students engaged in some extracurricular activities. The seniors keep conducting food fests and the festivals almost every month.

There was an entrance test called XAT. Then an SOP submission. Then a PI. There is no reservation benefits in XAT. It happens once a year. The application form is available on the website. From this year, there will be GD round also. GD and PI will happen offline.

It is similar to the curriculum of any top tier MBA college. It is a very vigorous one. There are frequent projects and assignments. There is a minimum of 3 exams per course and 2 assignments in general.

My experience at XLRI Jamshedpur

XLRI takes admission through the XAT examination followed by a GDPI. The overall cutoff for XAT is roughly around 95 percentile. This cutoff is the minimum eligibility for qualifying for the GDPI. The application fee is around 2000 INR and the form generally opens from June-July until the first week of December and the exam is held in the first week of January. Results are declared in January itself and the GDPI process begins from mid-February onwards. The final shortlist is declared in mid-April. Currently, there is no reservation system for admission to XLRI

My dream to pursue an MBA from one of the top B-Schools in the country came true when I got an admission offer from XLRI Jamshedpur. The faculty here are highly knowledgeable in their respective domains with multiple research papers published in peer-reviewed journals. The teaching method is mostly traditional type with lectures based on PPTs and case study analysis. Most profs are highly strict in their evaluations. Quizzes are held at regular intervals and they carry significant weightage as well. There are 3 terms held each year, each term consisting of 7-8 subjects.

Overall not much to dislike. Mess food and medical facilities can be improved. Steps are being taken by the administration to do so.

Eligibility - Recognized Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration or equivalent in any discipline. Cut-offs vary each year - 2023's cutoffs can be accessed through this link : xlri.ac.in / newsroom/press - release/xat- 2023 - XLRI- Jamshedpur - announces - cut - off - percentile The admission process is a black box so you don't know the weightage of each component, unlike IIMs. So it can be made a bit more transparent in my opinion..

I chose this course because it is considered to be among the top 5 courses in Indian MBA education. XLRI is just behind IIM ABC in terms of reputation and placements. Each section has max 60 students. So a faculty student ratio of 60:1 exists currently for each section/subject. Most of the faculty have undergone their PHDs/FPMs from top b schools such as IIM Ahmedabad,IIM Lucknow,IIM Calcutta,TISS etc. The teaching method is case based in most subjects with several components of evaluation including assignments and exams. A MBA year consist of 3 semesters of 2.5 months each with 7-8 subjects approx in each semester. Exams are very frequent and occur every other week. End term exams occur at the end of each term so on an average after every 2.5 months. Difficulty varies from professor to professor and subject to subject but the exams range from moderate to difficult.

XLRI : The best HR college in Asia Pacific

Brand image of the college is very good. Every aspirant and industry veteran knows about it.
Alumni network or XL Mafia is very vast and helpful.

It becomes humid during Summers so some people might not like it.
Unavailability of an airport in Jamshedpur causes inconvenience.

Any full time graduate can apply. Application forms are generally released in mid September to October with an application fees of 2200/-. Application closed by first week of December. There is no reservation in seats at XLRI. However, calls are given on lower cutoffs for reserved category.

HRM from XLRI is considered as the best in the Asia Pacific. I wanted to do HRM, so this was the dream come true for me. Faculty student ratio is about 1:25. Faculties are well qualified and sometimes best in India in their domain. Most of the teaching is case based method. XLRI follow continuous and comprehensive evaluation. It is not very difficult to pass but some students get failed in some subjects.

Once you join XL you become healthy, wealthy and wise.

Great atmosphere and surrounding as whole campus is lush green.
Sports is taken very seriously here and you get to have top notch fields and indoor arenas.

The outdoor area of jamshedpur is very small and the things to visit in jharkhand are less.
The weather in july and sept is very moist and bad.

First, you have to give XAT exam and score marks above the cutoff released by XLRI Jamshedpur. The average cutoff is available online, but It fluctuates from 93% to 95%. After that, submit your SOP and be ready for PI. There is no GD.

The HRM program is very enriching and the course is rigorous. You get to solve dozens of cases daily and get a whole new perspective on the business world and how really things work. Faculty is very famous countrywide and have a 1 to 10 ratio with students.

Candidates need to appear for the XAT examination in order to get admission to XLRI. XAT exam consists of QA, DM, and VA as its sections in Paper-1. Also, it has GK and Essay in Paper-2. Candidates need to clear the sectional as well as the overall cut-off for both BM and HRM programs. The application form is available on the XLRI website and any person pursuing graduation is eligible for the examination. There is no reservation in XAT. The only segregation between candidates is made on the basis of gender and degree. The GK and Essay Writing is not considered while calculating the xat percentile. Post this, candidates are shortlisted for the PI process where candidates need to give separate interviews for BM and HRM programs.

I chose the HRM program because XLRI's HR program is the best in India and Asia-Pacific region apart from having an inclination toward HR as a career. The cases that are being taught here are from Harvard University. Each subject consists of Quiz, Mid-Term, and End-Term, along with assignments and projects. The faculties are very brilliant in their field and also have unique teaching styles. Some of the faculties served as consultants to some of the big organizations in the country. They keep themselves as well as students aware of the current market scenarios so that students can do better in their careers post their studies. If a student indulges in the daily study then it is not difficult to pass the exams. Also, the faculties focus more on the implementation of concepts rather than the concepts in the exams.

I preferred the HRM program as XLRI is one of the best for this program. Admission at XLRI takes place through the XAT exam which is conducted in the first week of January every year. Around 90,000 people appear for it out of which around 10% are selected for the next round of interviews/GDPI. The form generally opens in the month of September and continues till the first week of December. It costs Rs. 2000 to apply for the common admission process while Rs.200 per program is charged to register for PGDM/PGDHRM course apart from the registration fee. XLRI does not offer any reservation benefits for category students. However, a reduction in cut-offs (generally in the range of 5-10 percentile) is offered for non-engineers and female students. The admission process is smooth and queries, if any, can be raised with the admissions office who try to reply as soon as possible.

XLRI HRM program is considered to be the best of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region. Its alumna is currently serving in CHRO roles in diverse industries. The course follows a healthy mix of theoretical and application-based case pedagogy. While students are familiarised with knowledge of courses like Micro/Macro Economics, Quantitative Aptitude, etc, they are also put to test with application-based courses like Performance Management, Wage Determination, and Strategic management.
