Facts about Personal Interview /Group Dicussion at XLRI

Group Discussion (GD): At XLRI, Group Discussion stands as a prominent evaluation method for getting admission to the PGDM courses. This year the institute has adopted a novel approach, rather than presenting participants with arbitrary topics, XLRI will present them with excerpts from literature or relevant sources. This approach is crafted to ensure fairness and assess candidates' ability to understand and effectively interact with contextual information. The new GD format will include:

  • Context Introduction: This includes a 3-minute context introduction, where participants read and formulate arguments based on the provided material
  • Discussion Phase: The next 15-minute discussion phase follows, encouraging dynamic discourse and exploration of contextual nuances
  • Takeaway Reflection: The session concludes with a 5-minute takeaway reflection, allowing participants to share personal insights

Overall, this context-based and structured approach aims to comprehensively assess candidates' skills and competencies objectively in both academic and professional environment.

Personal Interview (PI): The PI process is a crucial stage in the admissions journey at XLRI, providing a thorough exploration of each candidate's potential. Tailored to individuals, it goes beyond assessing academic prowess, and delving into the candidate's personality and future development capacity.

At XLRI, aspirants undergo a reflective journey, guided by esteemed faculty, assessing adaptability, resilience, and growth potential. Expected qualities from a candidate include self-awareness, a passion for learning, empathy, and clarity of thought. This holistic approach aims to identify individuals thriving in diverse academic settings, with the potential to become successful business leaders.

However, it's important to note that a good GD/PI performance alone doesn't guarantee admission; it is just one element in the comprehensive evaluation of a candidate's application.
